George St.Pierre Stops BJ Penn In 4

George St.Pierre Stops BJ Penn In 4

George St.Pierre has retained his Welterweight Title in spectacular fashion by totally dominating BJ Penn from start to finish. George St.Pierre was even able to take BJ Penn down, which is a very hard thing to do, he has one of the best take down defenses in MMA.

George St.Pierre was very quick with his punches, landing some great shots, his jab was superb. Many times in the fight George St.Pierre was able to get half guard, and at many points looked like he was going for a crucifix, the same move that Matt Hughes used on BJ Penn to stop him in their fight. But it wasn't to be, instead George St.Pierre stayed in a high half guard and done a good job of smothering and landing some big punches down on BJ Penn.

George St.Pierre was just better in everyway, stand up and on the ground, he also looked to be in much better shape as BJ Penn looked very tired pretty early in the fight. This was a total domination by George St.Pierre, who looked superb in every area of his fight game, he has come a long way and has evolved his skills to perfection.

BJ Penn's corner (his brother in particular) didn't want to see him take any more punishment, they could see he was not going to win and looked like he had lost the will to change the fight in his favor so they stopped the fight at the end of the fourth round. BJ Penn looked ok with that decision.

So where does BJ Penn go from here? Well he is still a great fighter and im sure he will be back, but for now George St.Pierre rules the roost and is still the welterweight champion.

Congratulations George St.Pierre!

Watch Boxing Online

Here you can watch boxing from the players below. The top player shows some of the best classic fights and is usually broadcasting between 10pm - 7am GMT. Or sometimes it can be on at any time so try your luck.

Boxing is one of the toughest sports in the world. There are so many true and moving storys about boxers, most don't make it to the top, but a few do. All boxers have one thing in common, a dream to reach the top. I hope you can imagine the disapointment of the ones that did not make it, but at least they tried their best, which is more then many arm chair warriors can say.

It takes a lot of courage to climb through the ropes and risk everything, so hats off to all the boxers to of ever laced up a pair of gloves, their all champions in their own right and they make boxing what it is.

The boxing channels that used to be available here for free have now been taken down. Sorry. Even Wiziwig has closed it's doors. It become increasingly difficult to watch boxing online for free.

Helio Gracie Dies Age 95

Helio Gracie Dies Age 95 From Natural Causes

Grand Master and father of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Helio Gracie and his older brother Carlos played a major role in developing what we know in 2009 as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Helio Gracie developed his own form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu because he only weighed around 150 Lbs and was weak in comparison to big strong guys. Helio's creation of his own Jiu-Jitsu was so effective that everyone wanted to learn it. Helio Gracie used leverage and position in such a way that he, and anyone that learnt from him was able to overcome the size and strength advantages of their opponents.

Helio Gracie is a true legend. His development of Jiu-Jitsu, contribution to Martial Arts and Superb example as a person will never be forgotten. This is the man that made Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu known to the world and made it was it is today. Thankyou Helio Gracie.

In one of his final magazine interviews the Grand Master expresses his concern for the future of Jiu-Jitsu:
“The Jiu-Jitsu that I created was designed to give the weak ones a chance to face the heavy and strong. It was so successful that they decided to create a sportive version of it. I would like to make it clear that of course I am in favor of the sportive practice and technical refinement of all athletes, whatever their specialty may be, as well as good nutrition, sexual control, avoidance of addictions and unhealthy habits. The problem lies in the creation of a sport-oriented Jiu-Jitsu, based on rules and time limits, which benefits the heavier, stronger, and more athletic individuals. The primary objective of Jiu-Jitsu is to empower the weak who, for not having the physical attributes, are often intimidated. My Jiu-Jitsu is an art of self-defense in which rules and time limits are unacceptable. These are the reasons for which I can’t support events that reflect an anti Jiu-Jitsu.”
-Grand Master Helio Gracie (October 1, 1913 – January 29, 2009)

Shane Mosley Knocks Out Antonio Margarito In Round 9

Shane Mosley Knocks Out Antonio Margarito In Round 9

After a quick start from Sugar Shane Mosley i thought he would slow down after a few rounds, then Margarito would start to come on strong, how wrong i was!

Shane Mosley totally dominated the fight from start to finish, with his hand speed and power punches. Antonio Margarito just couldn't get past the speed or power and didn't seem to have the answer to mosley's style.

I cannot beleive that Antonio Margarito, with his granite chin has been knocked out tonight, everyone expected it to be the other way round. I suppose this reminds us all that anything can happen in boxing, and styles make fights.

Shane Mosley looked superb. Margaritos's punches didn't bother Shanes as much as shanes bothered Margarito, who was rocked on several occassions.

Basically Mosley played Margarito at his own game, mostly pressuring him. The pace of the fight got to both fighters, but it definatley got to the 30 year old Margarito more, not the 37year old Mosley! Look who ended up knocked out.

Many people will be shocked by this knockout defeat, that was the last thing anyone expected! I bet there is going to be some skint people tommorrow as well because they all lost their bets!

Ricky Hatton Vs Manny Pacquiao Back On

Ricky Hatton Vs Manny Pacquiao Back On

After much debate regarding the purse split Between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao, it seems like they might have come to an agreement. First though i must say, i can't beleive the greedyness of Manny Pacquiao, he stands to make millions from this fight, even if he got 30%!! The Ricky Hatton camp have offered him a 50/50 split, but he was still not happy!

Bob Arum is going to meet with Manny and hopefully get him to sign the contract for the fight. Manny Pacquiao is still said to not be happy with the contract even though he stands to make 8.1 Million GBP for fighting Hatton. Manny Pacquiao has now been offered 8.5 Million GBP, and a 52/48 Pay-per-view split. If he doesn't accept that he is either silly, or does not want to fight Ricky Hatton. The only other reason i can think of is, he's beleiving the hype, people who are close to him are telling him he can demand more because he is the golden boy of boxing at the moment.

This really is a huge payday, the biggest for both Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton. Manny Pacquiao could no way get that payday from fighting anyone else other then Ricky Hatton. Manny Pacquiao should just accept the fight before the Hatton camp get sick of waiting, which they are.

If Manny Pacquiao does not decide quickly, there are other fights on the cards for Hatton. A possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr or Hatton could even fight the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez Vs Juan Diaz. Boxing fans have a lot to look forward to.

Can boxing help you in a street fight?

Can boxing help you in a street fight?

Yes, boxing can help you in a street fight. But never forget, it's more about an individuals mindset then anything else. Some people are more inclined to 'react' in a real life situation then others. Real life situations happen so fast, they can catch you off guard. And don't forget, there are no rules on the street. Real life situations are not a sparring session, you can get seriously hurt, specially when weapons are involved. Boxing will give you the confidence and sharpness of mind to react much more quicker then if you don't do anything which involves combat training, or you just sit around chilling and smoking all day.

Boxing or keeping fit in general will keep you more alert, but in order to get the full benefits from boxing you have to spar regularly. It can be a scary feeling when you are going to spar for the first time (I've been there myself), but believe me, once you do it a few times you start to love it. Just be careful, it can matter hugely on your first few sparring experiences, such as, if you go boxing and want to spar but you end up sparring a more experienced boxer, and they want to look good in the gym by giving you a boxing lesson this is not good and could totally put you off boxing and sparring forever. What you need for the first few times is good guys to spar with, this is one of the most important things.

Sparring is about learning, not taking someones head off. You might spar, get beat up badly and never go back boxing again, but you have to be aware, getting good at boxing sparring takes time to perfect. When I first went boxing I was going into sparring and treating it like a real street fight, just going crazy swinging everywhere! But after quite a lot of sparring I started to slow down, become more controlled, and really started to learn how to box.

The guys I sparred with when I first started seemed pretty good at the time, but once I got the hang of sparring they seemed like novices. You have to remember, everything takes time to perfect, from driving to boxing. And having good guys to spar with is one of the best things you can have, guys that understand that it takes time and want you to learn, who have nothing to prove because they know there good anyway, they don't need to show off by beating a novice. When you find training partners like that hang on to them.

Boxing is always handy in a street fight for many reasons-one being strength: Boxing training is tough, so this alone will make you stronger and more efficient with movement and co ordination.

Your Reaction time will be much quicker and after a while, boxing movements and punch combinations will get so drummed into you, it will become part of your natural instinct. Boxing training will also help you get faster on your feet, so you could jump back or duck out of the way of a street attack quicker. Your Confidence level from boxing training and sparring will hit the roof, specially when you know your getting better.

In general, boxing will just make you feel better all round, and when you feel better physically and mentally this will help you in any situation, from stress at work, getting the girl of your dreams, and yes even being being able to defend yourself in a street fight, which is only a good thing. No matter what walk of life you are from, or where in the world you come from, at some point in your life you will need to defend yourself. So doing boxing, or any other form of realistic fight training will definitely benefit you when the going gets tough.

A word of warning: Boxing can help you in a street fight but nothing is certain. There are a million and one different "real life situations" you could find yourself in, some which all the boxing skill in the world won't be able to get you out of. Street fights are not fair, mostly quick and brutal, anything can happen. Boxing has rules and regulations - the street doesn't, and some of the people you will fight there won't, and will do almost anything, or stoop very low to win or achieve their objective. So it's very possible that you might have to show some heart to overcome the situation. Never forget that, and never limit yourself to one fighting style. What if a fight turns into a wrestling match and ends up on the ground? Also remember: Your will to win can be just as, if not more important then your technique. You could be caught by the element of surprise, something that can catch anyone off guard so be aware.

If you are interested in what really works in a street fight and how to prepare for one I highly recommend you read the book below. If i could recommend one book you should read regarding street fights and what really works in real life situations this would be it. I cannot recommend it highly enough. You have to read this book.

Fighting Over Staring

Fighting Over Staring - True story by the Duke

Where i come from in Scotland there's much trouble on a daily basis. Theres so many gangs around here, your either part of one or you get hassle from them. I have been in gangs since i was a wee kid. Now im 28 and at the age where im sick of fighting over stupid things like territory and staring!. How stupid is that, fighting over staring, its just so childish like. The territory thing is stupid too. Where i live, if you happen to need to go into another part of the area where other gangs, that your not part of hang about, you could be killed. I have lost many a friend through this exact thing, when i say lost, i mean killed, stabbed, beaten, slashed to death. they were killed over nothing really.

I never used to think there was anything silly and immature about this stuff until i got older and more mature. The amount of meaningless brawls i have got into over stupid things like staring is embarrasing to think of. And here in Scotland, things are just getting worse, someone tried to slash me for nothing the other day, just because of a 5 second stare! It's lucky i can run a bit like.

Now that im at the stage where i think it's silly. But how do i break away from most of my friends that ive grown up with that don't think its silly and still get into trouble now..It's hard to break away when you have been part of it for so long.

The trouble here has got a lot to do with drink and drugs, all my mates drink and take drugs. There is so much hate in Scotland. how many more people have to die before something changes, sadly i think many many more. It seems like most of the people here that are involved in gangs and stuff just don't grow out of it, so do but most don't. Is that because they've done it for so long, it's the only thing they know?, who knows, but all i know is i don't want it in my life anymore.

Amir Khan Vs Ricky Hatton

Amir Khan Vs Ricky Hatton

There is quite a lot of talk lately about Amir Khan Vs Ricky Hatton taking place. Amir Khan has said he would love that fight and so has Ricky Hatton. Hattons only condition was that he would have to promote it.

I think this fight, although it seems a distant fight at the moment, could be a reality if certain fights go the right way, or wrong way. Like if Amir Khan looks impressive and beats Marco Antonio Barrera, and Ricky Hatton loses badly, or gets knocked out by Manny Pacquiao, then Amir Khan Vs Ricky Hatton could be the fight were all getting excited about very soon.

So how would this fight go? that's the million dollar question. Personally i think Ricky Hatton would win, his style would be too much for Amir Khan, too much pressure and no time to think. Amir Khan's defense is also very poor and i think Ricky Hatton would capitalise on that. Many people say Hatton doesn't have that much left, but after his last performance i still think, even if he lost badly to Manny, he would beat Amir Khan pretty easily.

Saying that, it's a fact that timing is a key factor in Boxing, has he got a fight with Hatton on the cards at the right stage (the end) of Hattons carrer..That could be the case. Amir Khan certainly has some good skills, so he has the tools to pull off a win, but his punch resistance is not up there, he has been rocked by boxers not considered as big punchers, and against Ricky Hatton you need some punch resistance.

Amir Khan Vs Marco Antonio Barrera

Amir Khan Vs Marco Antonio Barrera

It has been confirmed, Amir Khan will fight Marco Antonio Barrera in March 2009. I have to say, i was shocked when i discovered this, Amir Khan is much bigger then Barrera, and is a natural lightweight. Not to mention Marco Antonio Barrera is at the end of his career.

I had hoped Barrera would not make a comeback, he is a great fighter with some of the best skills i have seen. One performance that springs to mind is the way he totally schooled Prince Naseem Hamed. Marco Antonio Barrera will always been remembered as one of the best boxers of modern times.

I would never right Barrera off, he's just too good, even at this late stage of his boxing career, but i think Amir Khan, being so young and fresh will win this fight, which for me will be very sad. I don't want Barrera to go out like that, being beat by Khan, he is much much better then that, and it's only because of the stage of each fighters boxing career that Khan will win, if Khan fought Barrera a few years back he wouldn't last a few rounds.

Amir Khan's team, mainly his promoter Frank Warren are very aware of this, they know Barrera is at the end so there looking for a big pay day and a superb name to have on Khans record. To be honest, i really hope Barrera gives them a shock and comes in great shape and has trained very well for Amir Khans style.

After Amir Khans knockout loss to Prescott, many people were saying that Khan has not even beaten the best that England has to offer, and i think thats right, there are many good fighters in UK that would probably beat Khan, he should fight more of the UK fighters and establish himself.

Whatever happens with Amir Khan Vs Marco Antonio Barrera it should be a decent fight, even if Barrera is at the end of his career. Personally i would love Barrera to win this fight, but i think he is just too old now for the younger, fresher fighters, i hope im wrong. Goodluck Barrera!

How Can You Increase Your Punching Power?

How Can You Increase Your Punching Power?

Is punching power all in your genes? (Genetic Make-up), If your not born with punching power, can you develop it? most people that work and study genetics think power, whether it's running speed or punching power it's all about your genes. Personally i think it is too, to a certain extent. Let's also not get strength mixed up with punching power. I have been around many boxing gyms and seen huge muscular guys that have no punching power at all, i have also seen guys that don't look much but have huge punching power. Being able to lift heavy weights is totally different to being able to punch hard.

So then, how can you increase your punching power?

There are a few ways that i use when i have been out of the gym for a while, and when i do these things i notice an increase in my punching power.

The first one is Press Ups (Push Ups). This will give you good resistance and increase your {push power}. Push power is very important for punching power in my opinion. Do sets of press ups, slowly increasing the amount you do. Do some sets slow and some sets fast. This will definately increase you upper body strength and punching power without giving you the stiffness of arms and body that lifting weights will give you.

The second one is clapping press ups, this is where you do a normal press up but as you actually push up you push off the floor hard and clap your hands together, remaining in the press up position. Clapping press ups will help give you more explosive punching power, because you are pushing off the floor hard, you are basically replicating throwing hard punches.

The next is bag pushes: Stand in front of a fairly heavy bag, and instead of punching it, push it with a straight punching motion, when the bag is coming back at you, push it away again. Do sets of these, i would recommend sets 5 with reps of 10. always make sure you warm up before trying this. Even if you have to stop the bag because its coming back at you with too much swing thats fine.

Always make sure you do this with both arms to keep your training even. You should do the same amount with each arm. The next thing is punching a heavy bag. Training on a heavy bag will tire you out, this is because of the weight of the bag. Punching a heavy bag is a sure way to increase punching power. By a heavy bag i mean, a bag that hardly moves from your most powerful punches. These are the bags you find at boxing gyms that are usually vacant!. Get yourself on this bag (once fully warmed up) and give it a good few rounds of your time.

Pull ups are also very good for increasing punching power, giving you more strength to be able to deliver a solid punch.

Let's also not forget, it's not all about your upper body. Increasing punching power can also be done by using your body weight effectively, twisting your hips and legs into your punches. A good way to practise twisting your body into your punches for maximum power is to stand in front of a heavy bag, throw punches without using much arm movement or power, instead use your body, hips, and legs, so your turning your weight and power into the punches. This can be done with any kind of punch hooks or straights, but it is important that you stand in front of the bag in your fighting position, side on, not both feet together. This method is also very good for stamina , once you can do it properly, to be able to throw punches using mostly your body, hips and legs, and not so much arm power, this will make you be able to last for longer as it does not require as much energy sapping, tensing of the arms and shoulders. Try to use a combination of both arm, leg, and body movement.
