Tyson Fury Knocks Out Nascimento

Tyson Fury Knocks Out Nascimento

Tyson Fury puts on an decent performance by knocking out the previously unbeaten Brazillian Marcelo Nascimento. It was an action packed fight, with both fighters willing to trade from the first bell. Tyson Fury put Nascimento down in the first round with a nice straight cross that went through the Brazillians guard and put him on the canvas. Credit to Nascimento, he came to fight. He got straight up and showed great heart by coming back with some wild swinging hooks.

The rest of the fight was action packed, but most of it was quite amatuerish. Big swings from Nascimento, and at times, sloppy work from Fury. Nascimento was 13-0 before going into this fight, but his opposition must have been very poor as he was nothing more then a novice pro with a big heart and decent, but very widely thrown hooks.

The end came in round 5, with Nascimento feeling the pace Tyson Fury caught him with a nice punch to the temple as he was moving backwards which knocked Nascimento out cold.

It's onward and upward for Fury, winning another fight and calling out all the other heavyweights in the process. It would be nice to see Tyson Fury matched with a decent fighter on his next outing. He keeps calling out all the heavyweights, he wants to fight the better fighters, if only one of them would agree to fight him. Is Tyson fury right? Are they running scared....

Fedor Emelianenko Will Not Retire Yet

Fedor Emelianenko Will Not Retire Yet

I am pleased to write that Fedor Emelianenko will not retire yet. Fedor stated that maybe he acted too soon on announcing his retirement from MMA, and will fight again at some point, possibly facing the loser of the upcoming StrikeForce fight between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum.

I think it's the right choice for Fedor, he still has a lot left, and I don't think he, or his fans wanted him to end his career on a bad loss like he had in his last fight against Big Foot Silva.

Fedor could still be the best, he probably still is. I think firstly, it's his mind that he needs to get right, he used to have an edge in that department, but in his last two fights it hasn't been there. It's as if he has lost interest in fighting, and his mind doesn't seem as sharp when he's fighting, like it used to be. Second, if he is to stay at heavyweight, which I believe he is, he needs to be sparring and wrestling with bigger guys that are very good at boxing and Jiu-Jitsu. Fedor needs to adjust his training methods, he needs to evolve as a fighter. If he can get these crucial requirements right he will no doubt become a dominant force in MMA again, like he was not long ago.

Saul "CANELO" Alvarez Vs Matthew Hatton

Saul "CANELO" Alvarez Vs Matthew Hatton

Could this be Matthew Hattons chance to finally step out of his brothers shadow and actually achieve something that Ricky Hatton never did. A WBC World Title..Matthew has a very tough challenge ahead of him. Saul Alvarez is unbeaten, has great power, and is widely regarded as one of the best up and coming boxers to come out of Mexico for a while. It gets tougher for Matthew Hatton too. The fight is being held in Los Angeles, right in Alvarez's back yard, he will have a huge amount of support from the fans cheering for him on the night. Most Mexicans love Alvarez, and will want to be there to see him win the WBC title.

Matthew Hatton is not the terrible boxer that many people say he is. Give the guy some credit, you don't win numerous domestic boxing titles, then go on to win the European title if you can't fight to save your life. He is a decent, but very limited boxer, and if you compare him to the top guys out there, fair enough they are worlds apart in terms of class. However, one thing that Matthew Hatton has got going for him is that he's a workhorse. He just keeps plodding away at the same pace through every round, and as limited as he is in terms of power, movement, and combinations, this is boxing and the basic skills count for a lot, and he does have good basic skills.

With all that said, and with full respect to Matthew achieving what he has in boxing, Alvarez is on a different level all together. Saul Alvarez is better in every department, with his power, crafty combinations, and pressure style, he could be a future boxing star in the making. Couple that with him being in L.A for this fight, and then don't forget the WBC title up for grabs, and I'd say Matthew Hatton is going to get knocked out in this fight. Alvarez is too accurate and way too powerful for Matthew.

I have seen Matthew hurt in previous fights against much lesser opponents, and he was lucky that the opponent was at the end of his career, and didn't have the stamina to follow up with more punches. If he would have done so Matthew would of been stopped. If, or shall I say when Alvarez gets Matthew Hatton in trouble, he has the youth, aggression and stamina to finish the job.

Does Matt Hatton Have A Chance?

Yes, he does have a chance. Matthew has worked his way up ranks, and has beat some decent opponents along the way. Alvarez is good but not invincible, he was hurt against Cotto's brother early on in their match, but showed good come back determination. It remains to be seen how Matthew Hatton and Alvarez's styles will gel together. One things certain, Hatton's not going there to lie down. He will give it his all, and I expect an entertaining fight.

Prediction

Saul "CANELO" Alvarez to K.O Matthew Hatton in the later rounds.

Matthew Hatton should be respected for taking this risk, it really is a tough task. I would love it if Hatton pulled off the upset and crowned his slow burning boxing career with the belt of all belts, the WBC Light Middle Weight Title.

Big Foot Silva Beats Fedor Emelianenko

Big Foot Silva Beats Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor's eye was too swollen to continue

A shocking fight! The underdog, Big Foot Silva, dominated for most of the fight. Both Fedor and Silva started the first round swinging huge punches at each other, with Silva landing the cleaner shots.  I think the size difference played a big part in this fight. The rest of the first round was back and forth, with some action against the cage. Silva managed to take Fedor down and looked in control. However, Fedor turned the tables and went for an arm lock but Silva managed to get out of it. Silva managed to take Fedor down again, luckily for Fedor it was the end of the round because Silva was in a dominant position and Fedor looked like he would have been in trouble if the round hadn't of ended. Fedors guard was worryingly low. The first round was given to Fedor by the judges, possibly for aggression. Personally, I thought the first round should have been given to Silva. He landed some good punches and seemed in control mostly on the ground, and against the cage.

The second round was all Big Foot Silva. Instantly, Silva got Fedor on the floor with a perfectly timed take down. Fedor was mounted several times, and it looked to be all over when Silva, with a full mount on Fedor, was putting a serious beating on Fedor with some vicious ground and pound. Fedor looked totally gassed out. Silva was also very close to getting an arm triangle at one point but Fedor somehow managed to weather the storm and break free. But Silva was consistant, keeping the dominant ground position and almost choking Fedor out on more then one occasion. Silva went for a knee bar, but Fedor got out and went for his own Sambo heel / foot lock, but it didn't seem to bother Silva too much, and there was only a few seconds left of the second round, not long enough to apply the pressure needed for a submission. This was a 10 - 8 round for Silva. Big Foot Silva used his size and weight advantage to full effect, doing a good job of tiring Fedor out against the cage, and in particular, on the ground.

At the end of the second round the fight was stopped because Fedors eye was swollen shut, so there was no choice but to stop the fight. Fedor looked terrible afterwards sporting a huge swollen shut black eye and various big bruises to his forehead from the ground and pound.

A sad night for all Fedor fans, but a well deserved win for Big Foot Silva, he fought a great fight.

Fedor said after the fight that this might have been his last fight, and he may now retire.

Manny Pacquiao Vs Sugar Shane Mosley

Manny Pacquiao Vs Sugar Shane Mosley

When I found out this fight was taking place the first thing I thought was - What a silly fight. And to be honest I still think that. Sergio Martinez, Andre Berto, Marcos Maidana, Timothy Bradley, these are the fighters that should be lined up to fight Pacquiao, not Mosley. Shane Mosley recently had his chance against one of the best in Mayweather and he blew it. I think one of the younger, more fresher fighters should have been given a shot. This fight is about money, and I bet it will make a fair amount. But it's not the fight people want to see.

Mosley just hasn't got the stamina anymore to be effective in the late rounds. Look at Mosleys fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr, he had Mayweather in serious trouble in the second round but instantly ran out of gas, letting Mayweather clear his head, and actually go on to dominate the rest of the fight, winning a clear decision on the scorecards. Manny Pacquiao's stamina is very good, even in the last round of an all action fight. The only thing mosleys got going for him is power. Manny Pacqiuao is too fast with his "in and out" style to get caught early in the fight by Mosleys big power. Of course there's always a chance, specially with a big puncher like Mosley, but is a fight where the opponents just got a punchers chance a fight that the fans really want to see..I don't think so.

If Manny Pacquiao uses his speed, elusiveness, and fast combinations of punches to full effect, Mosley doesn't stand a chance. Don't think that I don't respect Mosley as a fighter because I do. He is a great fighter, but he's now too old to beat Pacquiao. Maybe six or seven years ago but not now. He doesn't have the engine anymore to be effective in the later rounds when he needs to pick up the pace and apply the pressure.

The Pacman camp are going to let mosley use his energy in the first five rounds, soon as he fades, Manny will pick up the pace, go to work and completely destroy Mosley, peppering him for the rest of the fight with jabs and three four punch combinations. I wouldn't be surprised if Mosley gets stopped in this fight, or his corner pull him out.

Could Mosley have that one big last fight left in him and end up beating Pacquiao? There are a few people saying that Pacquiao's having a hard time getting motivated for this fight. In boxing there's always a chance to win, it can take just one punch. But I don't think we will see an upset here, just another Pacquiao win.

Fedor Emelianenko Vs Big Foot Silva

Fedor Emelianenko VS Antonio "Big Foot" Silva - Strike Force MMA

Big Foot Silva Beats Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor will make his return to the octagon on Saturday 12th Feb 2011 since losing to Jiu-Jitsu master Fabricio Werdum. Big Foot Silva is a dangerous fighter, he has good punching power, great comeback determination, and is no slouch on the ground being a Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. He is a huge guy who has fought and beat some very good fighters, he has also improved immensely in the last year or so. Big Foot Silva gave Werdum a very good fight, and we all seen what Werdum done to Fedor. Silva also has good take downs and vicious ground and pound. This is a tough come back fight for anyone, including Fedor.

Fedor Emelianenko is considered by many as the best MMA fighter in the world, so he couldn't make his comeback against a mediocre opponent. Fedor is not without his haters though, people expect so much of Fedor and if he would of fought someone questionable the haters would of had a field day. Maybe they still will, maybe no one Fedor beats will ever be good enough for some people. However, I'm sure that if Fedor, at some point, fights and beats StrikeForce Champion Alistair Overeem, even the haters will have to conceed that he just beat "the man", considered as the one fighter people would have as the favorite to win in the build up to the fight.

Fedor Vs Big Foot Who Wins?

This is going to be a tough fight for Fedor, and as good as Fedor is it's still hard to pick a winner. But as we know, Fedor is the giant killer, he is brilliant at fighting the huge guys, and he has very good stamina late in fights, something that Big Foot does not have. Big Foot Silva should try and go for a quick stoppage because the longer the fight goes the more tired he's going to get. Fedor will probably try and use his fight tactics wisely, making Silva use up his energy in the early rounds, then when Silva's gassed out, Fedor will spring into action and go for a submission. Either that or some late round ground and pound. A tough fight for Fedor, specially coming off a loss, but I see Fedor making a successful comeback, winning by decision.

Is Fedor Finished As A Fighter?

Not at all, I think the Fedor loss to Werdum was just one of those things. Anyone, incuding the great Fedor Emelianenko can get caught. It doesn't take anything away from him, or any other great fighter, it just makes you realise and understand how easy it is to lose a fight in MMA.

Amir Khan Will Fight Paul McCloskey

Amir Khan Will Fight Paul McCloskey

Well, Amir Khan and his camp have ended up choosing to fight European Champion Paul McCloskey for their home coming fight. It would of been nice for Khan to have taken on a tougher fight in Junior Witter, but I'm sure McCloskey will put on a brave and entertaining performance. Talk is everywhere regarding the Khan Vs McCloskey fight being a tune up for Khans next fight against Timothy Bradley. No doubt McCloskey has been hearing this talk and reading all the comments online, tweets on Twitter etc.

I hope this really motivates him to train extremely hard and make sure he gives Khan a real good fight, just to prove to Khan and his camp that you should never look past any fighter, and it's a mistake to do so. Could we see Khan concentrating on the Bradley fight a little too much through this training camp for McCloskey? Maybe so. No fight is a sure win, and even if they do think McCloskeys an easy fight, which I hope it isn't, it would be wise for Khan to now just forget all the Bradley talk and think about McCloskey.

With all that said, I expect Khan to demolish McCloskey within 8 Rounds. McCloskeys not a bad domestic and European level fighter, but he is not at World level, not yet anyway, and I think this fight will hand him his first loss.

This fight almost didn't happen, McCloskey wasn't happy with the money he was offered. Negotiations were ongoing, along with the Khan camp looking at other options such as John Murray and Junior Witter. But in the end McCloskey came to his senses and took the fight. Just in the nik of time too, because the fight with Witter was close to being signed.

This is McCloskeys big chance to win a World Title, he would of been mad not to take it. He has to step up at some point, and it's better now then never. Let's say McCloskey didn't fight Khan and just defended his European title and ended up losing, it's possible that he would never get another World Title shot ever again. I really hope he gives this fight his all.

Amir Khan Might Fight Junior Witter

Amir Khan Might Fight Junior Witter

There is some talk going around that Amir Khans next opponent in April 2011 might be against former world champion Junior Witter. If this does end up being the case then Amir Khan should be praised for his willingness to take on good fighters. Junior Witter lost a split decision to Timothy Bradley in England, and also quit on his stool against Devon Alexander complaining of an elbow injury.

Witter is getting on in years now at 36, but he trains like a fighter in his 20's. He's always in the gym, always in shape even when not fighting, and does carry a significant amount of power in his punches. His switch hitting "Brendan Ingle" style is quite unpredictable and sometimes rather reckless, but that could work in his favor against Amir Khan, who does get hit once he starts to tire. And as we seen with Khan against Maidana, he was terrible on the inside and just couldn't tie up his opponent effectively. Maidana basically walked Khan down by cutting off the ring, then going to work while Khan was stuck on the ropes.

Khan and his camp probably feel the time is right to fight Witter with him coming off a few losses, being 36 years old, and most likely willing to take the offer placed on the table by Khan due to Witter still wanting to redeem himself and being hungry for the big fight, with a chance to win a World Title. Winning this fight would put Witter straight back to the top of the division.

If this fight takes place it's not an easy nights work for Khan, as well as a world title, huge pride is on the line here for both fighters, Witter especially. He was a British champion when Khan was still in the amatuer ranks, so he will be looking to knock Khan out. This fight is like a derby football match. Khan's from Bolton and Witter's from Bradford. Can Junior Witter be talked about with Ricky Hatton not being mentioned, probably not. Witter basically stalked Hatton to try and get a fight to happen, he wanted to fight Hatton so badly, but it never happened. So a show down with Khan could be the next best thing.

Amir Khans next fight is being considered as a tune up match to keep him active before he faces Timothy Bradley. If Khan faces either McCloskey or Murray, then it is just a tune up fight, he wins both those fights fairly easy, but Witter is definitely a much more thougher and far more experienced opponent to get past. Hats off to Khan if he does face Witter for his home coming fight, no one can say he is taking the easy route. It should be a great fight if it happens, a very interesting clash of styles.
