Finally A Klitschko Vs David Haye?

Finally A Klitschko Vs David Haye?

This fight now has nothing standing in it's way. Both guys want the fight, and both have agreed to a 50 / 50 split of all the money. The only thing now left to decide is the venue. Personally I think it would make the most money in either Germany or the UK. Both Wladimir and David Haye will be pushing for home advantage, and it's anyones guess on who will win that one. Maybe it will end up being held in a neutral venue like Las Vegas. Heavyweight boxing needs this fight.

Can David Haye Beat Wladimir?

Although I have followed David Haye's boxing career for quite a while, it's his last few fights that have impressed me the most. I know he hasn't faced the best opponents in the division, but they have been decent fighters in one way or another. With Audley Harrison not included. Haye has shown excellent skills, extreme calmness, and has been able to stick to his gameplans perfectly. I think Haye stands a very good chance of beating Wladimir. It's no easy task but I think Haye will have the same mindset and focus that he has had for his last few fights, and that will give him the confidence to pressure Wladimir, get in close, and land some devastating punches.

If Haye can get past Wladimirs jab I can see it being a fairly easy win for Haye. I just hope Haye doesn't underestimate the range and sense of distance that Wladimir has. Previous Wladimir opponents have all realised once in the ring with him that it's extremely difficult to close the distance on Wladimir because he either jumps out of range, reseting the distance, pumps the jab out, or ties up. It's much harder then it looks from outside the ring.

People think Wladimirs style is boring, it is when you look at past champions like Mike Tyson and George Foreman. But as boring as his style might look, it is very effective. As good as Wladimir is, and he is a very good, careful boxer no doubt about it, but I think his punch resistance will be tested in this fight. When Wladimirs had to take punches in past fights he has either been hurt or stopped, and Haye does have the power to knockout Wladimir. If Haye can get Wladimir hurt he will go for the kill, Haye won't let him off the hook. Wladimir, once hurt, does not have good recouperative powers what so ever. He stays hurts for a long time, which is a worrying weakness to have against a big puncher like Haye.

Boxing is about levels..Is David Haye at the same level as Wladimir, or one or two below. I think Hayes defense is slightly lacking, he does get hit, just look at the Ruiz fight, Haye was hit far too much, and Ruiz was at the end of his career. Haye cannot afford to get hit by Wladimir like that or it will be lights out for Haye. However, I do know that Haye didn't train much for the Ruiz fight and I expect him to train much harder for his career defining fight against Wladimir.

This will be one of the biggest heavyweight fights for quite some time and I can't wait to see it finally take place.

Hopkins Vs Pascal Ends In A Draw

Hopkins Vs Pascal Ends In A Draw

So the judges scored this fight a draw, but everyone else knew that Bernard Hopkins won this fight. Even though Jean Pascal scored two knockdowns in the fight Bernard Hopkins was the aggressor through out most of the rounds. He pushed the action, landed some excellent punches, and had the younger, fresher fighter looking like he was the one that was 46 years old. Credit to Pascal he landed some very good punches also, but his work rate just wasn't there, he was on the back foot constantly, and seemed to be very tired from round 6 onwards. Hopkins certainly came to fight, he went into this fight to take the title from the champion, and he did do that, in everyones eyes except the judges. Bernard Hopkins schooled Pascal and without doubt done enought to win this fight, but with Pascal being the home town fighter, Hopkins was never going to have an easy night winning on the scorecards.

Jean Pascals face said it all when they announced the fight was a draw, he knew Hopkins had won, and you could see he was disappointed in himself that he didn't perform better. Not the face of a fighter that knows they won, he knew what was up. If this fight would of been anywhere else Hopkins would of won clearly. Bernard Hopkins just showed us why he is still one of the P4P best fighters out there. His boxing skills cannot be questioned. A great statement by Hopkins.

Do you think Hopkins was robbed? Comment below.

Amir Khan Beats Maidana

Amir Khan Beats Maidana

Amir Khan remains the WBA Champion with a points win over Marcos Maidana. The fight was great, it was mostly all action. Amir Khan caught Maidana with two excellent body punches very early in the fight, putting Maidana on the canvas. Maidana's face said it all, the punches were perfectly placed. However, Maidana is a true warrior, he was able to get up and finish the round.

It was very clear that Khan was too fast for Maidana, specially in the first half of the fight. Maidana was made to miss a lot, and Khan was landing some good combinations, making Maidana frustrated. When Maidana tried to throw back Khan was out of range.

After the first half of the fight Khan started to slow down and Maidana was able to catch Khan several times with huge punches. Credit to Khan he did take the punches thanks to him having his hands constantly cupped around his face. On quite a few exchanges Khan looked dazed, and slightly amateurish, as if he didn't know what to do. Through some of the later rounds he was in serious trouble, being totally nackered and taking punishment, he was holding on for dear life, and also running around the ring, desperate not to let Maidana into range.

Maidana was also deducted one point for trying to use his elbow when the referee told the fighters to break, which did him no favors on the scorecards.

Credit to Amir Khan, he got the win and took some big punches in doing so. So he did answer some questions there. But it has to be said, he did look very amateurish at some points in this fight. Khan caught Maidana with some flush punches but they did not seem to bother him that much. If I were Freddy Roach I would not be happy with Amir Khan's performance.

This was his  Las Vegas debut fight, and Khan did not make this an easy fight like him and Freddy said it was going to be. It was actually the toughest fight of Khan's boxing career so far. I thought the fight was going to be stopped at one point in favor of Maidana as Khan was in serious trouble, throwing almost nothing back for very long periods, just running or holding, and his legs were gone. I think Joe Cortez gave him a bit of a gift in letting the fight continue. At one point I did hear Joe Cortez in the Khan corner telling him, "I'm here to protect you", concerned with how Khan was looking in the later rounds.
