Fedor Emelianenko Loses To Fabricio Werdum

Fedor Emelianenko Loses To Fabricio Werdum

Nobody expected this outcome! Fedor taps out after he gets submitted by a triangle / armbar in the first round. Fedor landed with some glancing shots that caught Werdum off balance more then anything else, but down Werdum went. Instantly, Fedor jumped on him, into his guard and started going to work with his vicious ground and pound. But Werdum's legs were excellent, he used them to to clamp Fedor's head and was able to get the traingle hold. At the same time he had one of Fedors arms. Fedor tried to escape but it was too deep. The armbar was there to stay. Fedor had no choice but to tap out.

Werdum's Jiu-Jitsu was excellent. And as much as I wanted Fedor to win, I have to say respect for Werdum, he was the better man on the night. It just goes to show that in MMA, anything can happen, no fight is a certain win, specially at this level.

I'm sure Fedor will be back, possibly for a rematch with Werdum. But for now, Werdum has just shocked the MMA world by beating arguably the best MMA fighter in the world. Werdum will either give Fedor a rematch, or fight Alistair Overeem for the StrikeForce title.

Fedor Emelianenko Vs Fabricio Werdum

Fedor Emelianenko Vs Fabricio Werdum

I get the impression that no matter who Fedor beats, people will always have something negative to say about him or his opponent. There are a long list of things, here's a few. His opponent was old, his opponent is a nobody, Fedors taking the easy fights, Fedor should fight Brock Lesnar, Fedor should take on the best the UFC has to offer. But come on, credit where it's due. Fedor has fought some very tough competition, including Mirko Cro-Cop and Nogueira Minotauro when they where in their prime. He has also Beat two former UFC champions, and has never really lost throughout his whole career.

The 1 loss on his record was because of a cut, which was one of the rules of the bout. So basically, at the time I wrote this, Fedor was unbeaten, something that no other A-Class MMA fighter is. Most of them have numerous losses, because with MMA there's many more ways to lose. So Fedor does deserve some credit. He has been rocked by punches in previous fights, almost been submitted, been behind in fights, but he always finds a way to win. To not really have a solid loss on your record in this game, with over 30 fights really is some achievement.

Fabricio Werdum is a worthy opponent. He has an excellent ground game, holding a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Fabricio's striking has also much improved. Fedor is a superb Sambo and Judo specialist, he uses throws extremely well, specially after he throws punches, because he knows at that time his opponent is off balance, so he is able to capitalise on that. It will be interesting to see who has the upper hand on the ground between Fedor and Werdum. One thing that does concern me about Fedor's ground game is that he sometimes forgets to keep his knees up when his past opponents have been in side control, this has seen him be susceptible to getting mounted a few times in the past. With respect to Fedor, he has always escaped the mount and won the fight, but against a true BJJ black belt, I hope he has eliminated that flaw from his game, otherwise he could be in serious trouble if he gets mounted.

Prediction
I beleive Fedor wins this fight. He's too sharp mentally, unbelievably skilled in all aspects of MMA, and physically, he's on another level. If the fight goes to the ground I see Fedor dishing out some damaging ground and pound, and possible winning via knockout. However, with two very dangerous fighters anything can happen, and there are many people that are betting against Fedor in this fight. They beleive Fedor is slowing down, just because he started slowly in his last two fights. Rather then then me! As tough as this fight might be for Fedor, and I'm sure Fabricio will have his moments, Fedor, so far, has always found a way to win, and I see this fight being the same. Fedor will be hurt, but will soldier to a win in one way or another.

Fedor Emelianenko has two more fights remaining with his StrikeForce contract. If he can beat Fabricio Werdum tonight, It is possible that he will face the current StrikeForce Champion Alistair Overeem. If he can win these two fights it's likely, but not a done deal, that he will sign a contract with the UFC, if the right offer is put forward. Saying that, I know there have been some recent disputes with long term sponsor of the UFC - TapOut. They wanted to sponsor Fedor to wear their TapOut clothing line, and were having TapOut t-shirts made with "Fedor" written on them, but the UFC put down a harsh ultimatum. If TapOut are involved with the event, and Fedor came out for the fight wearing a TapOut t-shirt, they would end all sponsorship deals with TapOut immediately for life. Either this is very unfair, or the UFC are more concerned about their rivals StrikeForce then they make out to be. So whether Fedor might hold this against the UFC and not sign up with them remains to be seen.

Also fighting tonight on the StrikeForce undercard are fighers Cung Le, Scott Smith, Josh Thomson, Cris Cyborg, and Jan Finney.

John McDermott vs Tyson Fury II

John McDermott vs Tyson Fury II

After a long wait, this much wanted rematch is here. The first fight between Tyson Fury and John McDermott was very good, although the referee, Terry O'Connor did raise the wrong hand at the end of the fight. It was a clear win for Dermott. This sparked outrage among everyone that watched the fight. Spectators at ringside couldn't beleive it. The fans, John McDermott, and his manager Frank Maloney demanded a rematch. Fair play to Tyson Fury, he said Yes ok no problem.

Tyson Fury knew, deep down, he lost the fight, so maybe he wants to prove to himself that he's a better fighter then he was that night.

Since that fight, Tyson Fury has picked up the training, changed trainers, and seems very focused for the rematch. There's no way he's going to take John McDermott lightly again. Tyson Fury has also said, if he loses this fight he will hang up his gloves, but somehow I don't think he will.

I beleive that Tyson Fury will win this fight. This is a 12 round fight, so both fighters stamina will be tested. John McDermott's a good domestic boxer, very tough and very determined. He will create problems for Fury, but I just see Tyson Fury fighting a much smarter fight this time around, using his superior height, jab and reach to keep John McDermott on the outside. Keeping the fight to his advantage.

Prediction: Tyson Fury to win a close decision.

Andre Ward Vs Allan Green

Andre Ward Vs Allan Green

The Super six tournament continues on it's journey to find a winner with this excellent match up between Andre Ward and Allan Green, which takes place this weekend. This is Allan Green's first fight of the tournament, seeing him take the place of Jermain Taylor, who pulled out of the tournament after losing to Arthur Abraham by knockout.

Allan Green has a chance to win against anyone in this tournament, mainly because he has good power and decent boxing skills. It's unfortunate for Green that he has Andre Ward as his first opponent. Ward is on fire after beating Kessler to claim the WBA title. Kessler was the favorite to win the tournament before he got beat by Ward, and in the fashion that Ward beat him, I think it's safe to say that many people were shocked. Loads of people are saying that Ward has got this tournament in the bag, but I don't think it's that clean cut yet.

There are some great fighters that have lost in this tournament, fighters that were previously unbeaten. These fighters, Abraham, Froch, Kessler will give it there absolute all. Just look at how Kessler came back after losing to Ward in his comeback fight with Froch. They are all proud champions, they have tasted defeat and im sure they won't want to again. The super six tournament is still anyones, it's wide open.

Before Allan Green took the place of Jermain Taylor he was talking alot about why wasn't he chosen from the start to be in this tournament. He was saying he could beat every guy in the tournament. Well, now he is in the tournament he has the chance to show us all what he said was not just talk. Make no mistake, Allan Green is the underdog in this fight. Green is also in need of a knockout in order to gain a much needed 3 points in this tournament. He is starting late so he needs these 3 points and I beleive he will go looking to knock Ward out from the first bell.

Andre Ward is so skilled, so sharp, and so focused that I beleive he will beat Green, but he will get hurt in the process, his punch resistance will be tested. The question is, can Ward take Allan Green's heavy punching power that has seen Green get the win by KO over many of his previous opponents? We will find out on Saturday night.

This will be a great fight, do not miss it.

Prediction: Andre Ward by decision.

Floyd Mayweather Retires Again

Floyd Mayweather Retires Again

If you haven't already heard..Floyd Mayweather has done an interview claiming that he is taking time out of boxing, possibly a year or two. Just as Manny Pacquiao agrees to take the blood tests so the pair can meet in September or November 2010 Floyd suddenly retires..Does Floyd really want to fight Pacquiao, or has he just been playing games?

I beleive that Floyd, who has been involved in wrestling, and is very friendly with some of the top wrestling companys, is trying to bring the wrestling "fakeness and silly drama" into boxing. This might work in wrestling, but boxing is different, and it's making him look like he's ducking Pacquiao.

This is all just advertising, entertainment, creating more and more interest in the fight. More interest means more money is generated. I personally don't think he's scared of Paquiao at all. He's just trying to be smart, but it's gone on for so long that it's wearing a bit thin now. People are getting bored with his excuses.

Floyd Mayweather changes his mind so often that I'm not going to write too much about the fight, because tomorrow the fight will be back on again!

Is he ducking Pacquiao?

Cotto Destroys Foreman

Cotto Stops Foreman - 9th Round KO

I was so happy to see Cotto come back in style on Saturday night. Everyone was watching, waiting to see if he still had any fight left inside him. Well, the answer is yes, he does. The partnering with legendary trainer Emanuel Steward seems to have worked well. Cotto seemed very focused through out the whole fight, picked his punches very well, and didn't seem gassed out hardly at all.

The punch that ended the fight was a perfectly placed body punch, which had the Cotto of old written all over it. I know it's too ealry to say for sure but Cotto did look like he was back to his old self. He was very impressive and I see no reason why he can't go on to dominate once again. He has really only ever lost to the Pound for pound best Manny Pacquiao, and the Margarito fight has all that hand wrap issue attached to it, so that could be classed as a no contest in terms of, did Cotto really lose that fight fairly?

Foreman fought with a lot of heart and did have some good moments, but seemed to be out of his depth against the power and cunning skills of Cotto.

Anyway, a great win for Cotto, which now moves him straight back into the mix with the top contenders..I predict some great match ups to come for Cotto..

Training Wearing A Weighted Vest

Training Wearing A Weighted Vest

Weighted vests are used by many people to add more resistance to their training. From amateur to professional sports people, and also regular people who are into keeping fit and want to make their usual training methods more intense.

Fitness and stamina will be greatly improved from training wearing a weighted vest. Your body will get used to the carrying the extra weight around, becoming much more efficient when not wearing the vest. You will feel very light, literally like a weight has been taken of your shoulders! After a while of exercising in the vest, training without it will feel so much easier then usual.

If your considering wearing a weighted vest and doing any form of training, from running, to press ups, pull ups, sit ups, or any other physically demanding exercises, the vest will make the exercises become twice as hard to carry out. Training in a weighted vest adds more pressure on certain parts of the body, and not just on your heart, muscles, and lungs either, but also on your bones, and nerves. It's common for people that have not been doing any form of exercise or training for a while to suddenly become eager to start back up, and they think, "i'll buy a weighted vest and start training", only to become injured pretty quickly because their body as a whole needed a few months to get back into the swing of just doing some normal training without any added weight. This way the body can slowly become used to being worked again. Wearing a weighted vest when you have not been training for a while is asking for trouble. Muscles, nerves, and bones need time to adapt, they are not used to the extra weight and need to be broken back in to a training routine gradually.

This is why training wearing a weighted vest should be done so with caution. If you are just getting back into training and are eager to wear your weighted vest, it is best to put the vest on and just go for a walk a few times. Then maybe do a few squats, a few press ups, get your body slowly used to the extra weight. If you don't let your body gradually get used to the extra weight you have a higher chance of injury. The most common injurys that occur from training too hard when you have not been training regularly are muscles and nerves seizing, or getting pulled, mainly in the neck, as well as the upper and lower back. Your neck and back are much more vunerable to just "go", seeing you become totally out of action, to the stage where you will have trouble doing normal, everyday tasks for at least a week, in many cases much longer. Anyone that's had this happen to them knows how painful it can be. These are not the only injurys that can suddenly pop up from wearing a weighted vest when your body isn't used to the strain.

Bad knees are another very common problem that people report from using a weighted vest to go running in, causing aching, and damaged knees from the extra weight. This is why you should train without the vest, get your fitness to a high level, then try out the weighted vest. Even if your fit and exercise regularly you should still take it easy when wearing a weighted vest the first few times. Of course, you can get injured like this from not wearing a weighted vest, but by wearing one, you maximize the risk.

Only wear a weighted vest for training when you have been exercising regularly, for at least 6-8 weeks without the vest. This way your muscles, tendons, bones and nerves are much more capable of handling the extra weight from wearing the vest without injury. Your body will adapt and become stronger the more you work it. Keeping active is vital, but overwork your body when it has been used to doing no training for a while and you will pay the price with an injury.
