Wlad Klitschko Open Workout For Haye

Wladimir Klitschko Open Workout For Haye

Wladimir Klitschko done more of a workout then David Haye, maybe this is because he's basically in his back yard and feels he has to put in a bit more effort for the people that have came out to watch him at the open workout. It's clear that David Haye just want's to fight now, where as Wladimir is still happy to talk and go through the motions. At one point (I don't think it was caught on camera) Wladimir asked Haye to stick around and watch his workout, but Haye just left the building!

David Haye Open Workout For Klitschko

David Haye didn't do much in the open workout, except some moving around the ring and some shadow boxing. He actually threw just one punch on the pads, the overhand left. Could David Haye switch to a Southpaw fighting stance for this fight? I don't think so. The Haye camp are just trying to confuse Wladimir so to not give anything anyway.

David Haye Vs Wladimir Klitschko Fight

David Haye Vs Wladimir Klitschko Fight

"Unlike all the fat little American puddings who come over here just to get a cheque and get beat, Wladimir has got to face a faster, harder-punching, hungry, fit athlete in his prime."

These were David Haye's words on his opponent, Wladimir Klitschko.

Will Haye be able to back up his big-talk when he squares off against the man who, along with his big brother, has pretty much owned the heavy weight division for the past six years? Despite how you feel about the heavyweight division's quality this past ten years, it still takes a pretty harsh outlook to deny Wladimir Klitschko his dues.

"This was once one of the great prizes in sport, Klitschko has killed that. I hold him responsible for the huge fall off in interest in the heavyweight division. He has bored us for years. I even hate his voice, which is like Borat." With statements like these, and many, many more,  it's clear Haye doesn't think so.

Haye has always had a big mouth, yet he's always had that big right hand to back it up, but there are some who feel he's taking things too far this time. Yes, of course, he's talking things up, selling the fight - that's what boxers do. But while sometimes comical, his loutish, crass tactics are in stark contrast to Mr Klitschko's well spoken, articulate responses: "when he says that I have only fought bums he is disrespecting his 49 fellow professionals who I knocked out, as well as me."

Even if Haye wins, will he be able to wash all the bad blood off? Is this kind of thing good for the sport? Then again, if you consider Haye's imminent retirement (stop that sniggering) it may not matter that much to him. But if he loses, he won't be able to see for all the egg on his face. Haye has talked himself into a corner, but maybe this is what he wants.

Haye has speed and power, something that his opponent has struggled against before. South African slugger, Corrie Sanders, was able to show what a smaller, determined man with heavy hands could do to Wladimir. Back in 2003 Sanders was able to take the WBO belt away from him with a barrage of short, powerful punches that rocked the big Ukrainians' world, dropping him four times. Haye is certainly capable of delivering such power - maybe even more - to Klitschko's chin.

Then again, some think Wladimir Klitschko was arrogant and complacent against Sanders, not taking him seriously; inexcusable, yes, but not something he's done since and certainly not a trick he'll be repeating when he faces down Haye come July 2nd.

One thing Wladimir Klitschko isn't is stupid, and you can be certain he's done his homework, training hard preparing for his smaller and faster opponent. He'll be aiming to keep that iron jab of his pumping into Haye's face as often as possible, and with that big right hand cocked and ready to land. If Wladimir can effectively balance these two big weapons, he could certainly bring Haye down.

Regardless of the hype, I have a feeling we are going to experience a thrilling  fight this Saturday, and I for one, won't be missing it.

Klitschko V Haye Staredown And Scuffles

Wladimir Klitschko Vs David Haye Staredown And Scuffles Video

As if the build up to this fight wasn't exciting enough already. Things are really starting to boil over now the more nearer the fight between Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye is becoming. This was the stare down after the final press conference. Both fighters look very confident.

Wladimir wrote the number 50 on his hand and pointed it at David Haye, as if to say that David Haye will be his 50th knockout. David Haye was saying things to Wladimir but there was too much going on around the fighters to actually hear what he was saying. Vitali Klitschko was also in attendance to support Wladimir. The scuffle seems to have happened because someone from Germany or America associated with the fight tried to move David Haye in order to end the stare down. Expect fireworks at the weigh in!

Matthew Macklin Open Workout For Sturm

Matthew Macklin Open Workout For Sturm

Matthew Macklin is a huge underdog in this fight. Here he is with his coach, Joe Gallagher doing some pad work for the open workout session. Macklin looks strong on the pads, but will the step up in class be too much for him. We'll find out soon enough. I hope Macklin does the business.

Defending WBA Middleweight Champion Felix Sturm will be making his 10th defense of the title tonight in Germany against Matthew Macklin from the UK. This is a tough fight for Macklin, Sturm is a very solid, very experienced fighter who has mixed at world level for a very long time. Macklin will have to be at his best to take the title away from Sturm in Germany tonight.

Here is Felix Sturm going through the motions in his open workout before the fight. It should be a very interesting match up, mainly because Matthew Macklin is going to have to go for the knockout.

David Haye Behind The Scenes Training

David Haye Behind The Scenes Training

Here is a quick sneek peek at some of the training that David Haye was doing at his gym in Vauxhall, London for the Wladimir Klitschko fight. David Haye has stated that all sparring has been stopped early because he's done enough and he's ready for the fight. But that's almost unheard of, to stop sparring with 18 days to go before the fight. Specially for such a career defining fight. The David Haye camp are certainly trying to play mind games on Wladimir Klitschko by saying that. They want Wladimir to think that Haye's not really doing much.

Can David Haye pull off the upset? He's certainly talking a good fight. One thing I will say about Haye, he does talk a lot but he has always backed it up in the ring. With only one loss on his record and with the punch power and speed that Haye brings to the table, he's definitely got a chance in this fight.

Fedor Emelianenko Vs Dan Henderson

Fedor Emelianenko Vs Dan Henderson

Fedor Emelianenko makes his return to the octagon on July 30th at the Sears Center in Chicago against the current StrikeForce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson. Nobody can accuse Fedor of picking an easy opponent for his return to the octagon after two losses in a row. A warm up fight does not seem like a bad idea, and would be acceptable to most people, fans and fighters alike. When a fighter is coming off back to back losses, sometimes they need to have an easy nights work just to have a confidence builder. That's not Fedor's style, he has been competing at the highest level for so long against the elite MMA fighters that he would not have it any other way. Fedor needs a challenge in order to keep himself interested and hungry enough to continue fighting. If he can't compete at the highest level any longer I believe he would rather retire, and I must say I would rather that as well.

I would not like Fedor to follow the same path as Mike Tyson, who fought on way past his prime, and as a result he got beaten by fighters that wouldn't of touched him in his prime. I would hate to see Fedor go down that same path, stay in the game past his prime and become a journey man, has been, or gate keeper, whatever you want to call it. Fedor Emelianenko is too smart for that, and I believe if he loses this fight against Dan Henderson he will seriously consider quitting MMA for good. Either that or he will have one more go.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Fedor hasn't lost yet and I actually believe he stands a great chance of beating Dan Henderson on July 30th. Fedor has been training in the Netherlands, Holland, working on his striking with some of the best Thai / Kick Boxing coaches in the world, so he is taking this fight extremely seriously. Fedor has felt the need to change some of his training methods, evolve if you like. This could be what he needed to do, let's see if this change pays off on fight night.

Both of these fighters are big hitters. Henderson has one punch knockout power so it would be wise for Fedor to take this fight to the ground. But Fedor loves to bang and has one punch knockout power also, so I see him standing and trading with Henderson. Will this fight come down to who has the better chin? Fedor will trade with Henderson, but if he senses he's not getting the better of Hendo, or he's taking too many big punches, Fedor will take the fight to the ground.

This is a tough come back fight for Fedor, Dan Henderson is a great fighter, highly experienced, and on a great winning streak, but I see Fedor being more suited to facing a smaller, lighter opponent compared to some of the giants he has been fighting. Dan Henderson is decent on the ground but his main asset is his striking, particularly his punch power. I think Fedor will take this fight to the ground at some point and end up submitting Dan Henderson.

Saul Alvarez Stops Ryan Rhodes

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez Stops Ryan Rhodes

Saul Alvarez completely outclasses Ryan Rhodes in front of his home fans in Mexico, scoring a 12th round stoppage. Credit to Ryan Rhodes, he showed he has heart by hanging in there for 12 rounds because he was getting a boxing lesson in every round. He was beaten in every department, everything Rhodes tried just wasn't good enough. Rhodes wasn't throwing enough punches and he was waiting far too long.

When he did let his hands go, it was mostly one punch at a time. Rhodes stayed in punching range too long as well, making himself an easy target, standing in front of Alvarez taking 4 - 5 punch combinations. Alvarez was too fast hand and foot. Most of Alvarez's combinations were excellent, mixing his shots from head to body extremely well. Alvarez looked very impressive tonight. This was the first defense of his WBC Junior Middle Weight Title.

I actually think Matthew Hatton gave Alvarez a tougher fight.

Alistair Overeem Beats Fabricio Werdum

Alistair Overeem Beats Fabricio Werdum On Points

A very close fight that didn't live up to it's hype. This was mainly due to the clash of styles between the two fighters. Werdum's striking was much improved, and he did land some good punches and kicks on Overeem. But Werdums main objective was to take the fight to the ground, but Overeem wasn't interested. Everytime Werdum went to the ground, either because of a failed takedown attempt, or by getting hit or thrown, Alistair Overeem just struggled free and walked away, making Werdum have to get up and fight!

At one point Werdum has begging Overeem to come to the ground but Overeem knew better then to give Werdum his best chance of winning the fight. Both fighters had some good moments but it was Alistair Overeem's supreme strength and power advantage that won him the fight. He was able to man handle Werdum and also had good control of the action when he was in Werdums guard by using his strength and weight to full effect.

Alistair Overeem Vs Fabricio Werdum

Strike Force World Grand Prix

Alistair Overeem Weighed In @ 256 - Fabricio Werdum @ 246

Will Alistair Overeem avenge the loss by Kimura (armbar) that he suffered at the hands of Fabricio Werdum at PRIDE Total Elimination Absolute in 2006. That was five years ago, and in that time Alistair Overeem has become a much more well rounded MMA fighter. He has improved immensly with his stand up, and his ground game is also very good. Overeem is without doubt one of the strongest heavyweights out there, and this helps him on the ground too. He is able to man handle most heavyweights because he is so strong. However, with his opponent Fabricio Werdum, Overeem is facing a guy who is just as big, standing around 6ft 4in, probably not as strong, but has a far superior ground game.

Fabricio Werdum is one of the most highly skilled Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu masters in MMA today. If this fight goes to the ground, which it most probably will at some point, Alistair Overeem will have to try and use his strength to bull doze his way into a dominant position, or use that strength to get out of trouble. This is easier said then done against Werdum. We all seen what he did to Fedor Emelianenko.

Prediction: This is a close fight and both fighters are on great winning streaks, but Strike Force champion Alistair Overeem has evolved so much since he lost to Werdum that it's hard to imagine him losing on this ocassion. I believe Overeem will be too strong this time round and will smash Werdum into submission with some vicious ground and pound.

Saul Alvarez Vs Ryan Rhodes

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez Vs Ryan Rhodes

Saul Alvarez Weighed in @ 153.2 - Ryan Rhodes @ 152.8

Saul Alvarez takes on his second British fighter in a row by taking on Ryan Rhodes tomorrow night. Here we have a hot prospect in Alvarez, against a battle hardend veteran in Ryan Rhodes. Both have looked vunerable in past fights in regards to punch resistance, and both have good punching power, so this is an exciting match up.

The question is, who is at world level between these two? I think Saul Alvarez is the one that has the more skill and potential as a whole, and also the one that will go on to achieve a lot in boxing. But as mentioned above, he is a fairly static fighter who stays in the pocket long enough after throwing punches to get hit himself. He does get hit. Alvarez took many punches against Matthew Hatton  but luckily Matthew didn't have the power to trouble Alvarez. Ryan Rhodes does have that power, so if Alvarez gets caught with even half the amount of shots Matthew Hatton caught him with he will know he's in a real fight.

Alvarez does have home advantage in this fight, which counts for a lot when you consider that home advantage for Alvarez means 99.9% of all people in the arena are routing for an Alvarez win.

Ryan Rhodes is no joke, he is a tough test for Alvarez. Rhodes has matured like a fine wine, his early boxing career did have some set backs, but as he has gotten older and more experienced he has actually evolved and become a much more well rounded fighter. I believe Ryan Rhodes is at his best right now and if there's ever been a time when Rhodes was capable of mixing at world level and winning a world title based on skill, experience, and maturity, it's now.

Amir Khan Vs Zab Judah

Amir Khan Vs Zab Judah

In my opinion, this is the fight for Khan to prove to everyone that he has what it takes to really mix it up with the top boxers of his weight class. Marcos Maidana was very tough, rugged, and hard hitting, but Zab poses other threats. I know Zab Judah is no spring chicken anymore at 33 (which isn't even that old), but he is still a seriously skilled boxer. He is, skill wise, still up there with the best, including Floyd Mayweather Jr. Zab does have some losses on his record but there mostly against big punchers that walk there opponents down. Baldomir and Cotto spring to mind. Khan's style doesn't really fit that description.

A concern for Zab Judah is his stamina and will to win, which is the past has been questionable. We could see a different Zab though against Khan because he is now being trained by Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker. One of the best fighters of his generation. Pernell Whitaker trained Zab Judah for his fight against Kaizer Mabuza, and I know Mabuza isn't on Khan's level but Judah looked impressive in that fight, knocking Mabuza out in the 7th round to claim the IBF title. We could see a reinvigorated Judah against Khan, and if we do see a Zab Judah who is back to his old self, back to his best, Khan will have to be at the top of his game to stand a chance of beating Zab Judah. But can Zab get back to his best at this stage of his long and colourful career against top opposition like Amir Khan..

I think Zabs experience, southpaw style, slickness, defense, and accuracy could cause Khan some serious problems. I believe that if Floyd Mayweather Jr and Zab Judah had a rematch today it would still be points win for Mayweather, but only after a fairly close fight. Maybe this is because their styles are so similar in ways. Amir Khan and Zab Judahs style will gel very well, there both great counter punchers with very fast hands. This will be a fight that goes back and forth, the difference I believe between the two will be the will to win and stamina. Both of which I think Khan has the advantage.

Zab Judah has a tendency to fade and slow down in the champion chip rounds, and looks like he wants to be anywhere but in the ring fighting. Khan is the opposite, he has bursts of energy and determination late in fights. A concern for Zab is lately his opponents haven't been of the best caibre and he could come unstuck facing someone like Khan, who has been fighting the better opponents out of the two, and also regularly spars with Manny Pacquiao and other young fresh prospects. I fear Khan might just be a little too energetic for Judah, a little too much in his prime. Unless Judah manages to land one of his very accurate punches, then smothers Khan with some combinations, I'd say this fight is a points win or late stoppage for Amir.

I do think Khan will win this fight, but theres alway a chance that he will get caught by one of Zabs hooks or superb uppercuts. Although Khan did survive against Maidana it was still clear to see that when Khan's in trouble his boxing ability goes out the window. He was very lucky that the referee didn't stop the fight in the 10th round against Maidana, because Khan was out on his feet. Judah is a much more slicker boxer then Maidana. If Judah has worked on his stamina and is mentally in the right place, this will be Khans toughest test so far.

Junior Dos Santos Beats Shane Carwin

Junior Dos Santos Beats Shane Carwin by Unanimous Decision

In the first half of the 1st round Shane Carwin looked good. He was trading punches with Dos Santos and seemed to be holding his own. But as the second half of first round came about Shane Carwin looked seriously gassed out. One minute he looked fine and the next he was caught with a glancing shot that sent him stumbling to the side of the cage. Santos  followed up with about twenty unanswered punches. It looked like the fight was going to be stopped but Herb Dean let it continue.

At one stage while Junior Dos Santos was destroying Carwin with punches against the cage, Santos actually looked to the referee as if to say; Aren't you gonna jump in. But the referee did not stop the fight, which I think was the correct decision as Carwin was still defending himself in the way of having his head turned away from the punches and positioning his hand up in front of his face to try to block the punches. The end result of this huge barrage of punches was Shane Carwin's nose being broken and his face looking a complete bloodied mess.

The rest of the fight was quite slow paced. Carwin was trying to clear his head, and Junior Dos Santos was landing punches but being very cautious also. He knew that he was going to win the fight and didn't want to make any silly mistakes and end up getting caught by a big punch from Shane Carwin. Junior Dos Santos was taken down a few times by Carwin but managed to get back to his feet quite easily. He showed excellent strength.

Shane Carwin did land some punches, but after that first round beating he was rather spent and looked more interested in just seeing the fight through to the end instead of trying to actually win the fight. Fair play to Shane Carwin, he showed a lot of heart by not giving up, but something tells me that if Dos Santos would have pushed the action a little more instead of fighting cautious, he probably would have stopped Shane Carwin.

Junior Does Santos will now fight Cain Velasquez for the UFC Heavyweight Title.

Jon Jones Vs Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

Jon Jones Vs Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

This match is not yet set in stone, but Jon Jones is more then likely going to defend his UFC light heavyweight title belt against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Very exciting match up. Both fighters are coming off decent wins, but Jon Jones's victory over Shogun Rua was much more impressive. Jon Jones is on fire at the moment and seems unstoppable. He is very talented there's no doubt about that. Is Rampage the man to put a stop to Jones winning streak. Hopefully we will find out soon.

George St. Pierre Vs Nick Diaz UFC 137

George St. Pierre will fight Nick Diaz at UFC 137, October 29th 2011

It's been confirmed that UFC Welter Weight Champion George St. Pierre will fight StikeForce Welter Weight Champion Nick Diaz at UFC 137. This will be the first time that the current champion from the UFC will fight the champion of StrikeForce. This should be a great fight. We all know that GSP is one the best MMA fighters in the world but Nick Diaz is also right up there too. More importantly, Diaz is very experienced in all aspects of MMA, and really comes to fight, so it won't be a walkover for GSP.

Carl Froch Vs Glen Johnson

Carl Froch Vs Glen Johnson

Carl Froch will be defending his WBC Super Middle Weight Title on Saturday night against Glen Johnson. The winner of this fight not only has the WBC title, but also goes through to the final of the Super Six Tournament to face Andre Ward. Glen Johnson's a very tough old workhorse fighter. He's been in with almost all the great fighters of his era, and done very well against them too. Glen Johnson is now in his early 40's but don't let that fool you. Even today, he is still fighting and beating top class fighters. He has a boxing style that is very hard to neutralise. Basically, he just keeps walking his opponent down, and sooner or later he catches up with them. It's hard for an opponent to stay away from Johnson for the whole 12 rounds. He is great at working on the inside and equally as good at mixing his punches from head to body. Johnson's overhand right is something that Carl Froch should be weary of..

Although Johnson is way past his prime and everyone expects a Carl Froch win, he still has a tough fight on his hands. Johnson is a really tough opponent, very awkward and very strong. Carl's tactics have to be right for this match. If he uses his range and movement for most of the fight he should win. But if he abandons his gameplan and trys to have a tear up with Johnson he could very well find himself in deep trouble. Not saying Carl can't go toe to toe, we have seen in previous fights that he can have a tear up with the best of them. But he doesn't need to risk fighting like that in this fight. Box clever and Froch wins on points. If Froch want's a war he plays into Johnsons hands and Froch could possibly be saying bye bye to his WBC title and a place in the super six final.

Something tells me that Carl won't be silly in this fight. He's not stupid, he knows he has to fight clever against Johnson. Should be a very interesting fight.
