David Haye Vs Audley Harrison
At first I wasn't that interested in this fight as it looked as though David Haye was taking the easy route. Fighting Audley Harrison instead of Wladimir Klitschko. If you compare Audley to Wladimir then perhaps he is. But, the more footage I watch about this fight, the more interested I have become. In particular the coverage on Audley Harrison. He certainly has been talking a good fight!. He's come close to almost convincing me that he's going to win, and that takes some doing because I see no other outcome then a Haye victory. So, for selling a fight, Audley is the Reigning - Defending - Heavyweight Talker Of The World. Will he become the WBA Champion too...Well, we will find out on November 13th.
My honest opinion is that Audley will give a good account of himself for 5 - 6 rounds or less, as he has had the best camp he's ever had up in Big Bear, and does seem to be in the best shape he's ever been in. Audley will give it his all, as he's well aware this is his one and only chance to become Heavyweight Champion. But once Audley tires, which he always does, he becomes an easy target, and Haye will land at will, finishing the fight with a knockout.
Some of the Audley training camp footage has had me laughing my head off, there's one video where everyone in his camp is chanting "yes he can" lol. I actually felt embarrased for them. It looked like something out of a fake Rocky movie, with Audley playing the role of Balboa.
Audley can talk as much as he wants, but he has to get in the ring and do it come fight night, so all the talk doesn't really mean anything. Is it getting under Hayes skin, maybe it is a little. But I can't see Haye letting any of the hype cloud his gameplan. I think it's clear there both very serious about this fight, and they both like to talk a lot, but for me it's Haye who is more "business" like, and keeping his eye firmly on the goal. Other then the early marketing TV apearances that involved both fighters, just look at who is in all the fight coverage from various Television networks as we edge closer to the fight. There mostly starring Audley Harrison. David Haye has become more reserved the closer the fight has come.
David Haye has brought in top heavyweight contender Tony "The Tiger" Thompson for sparring, and there was talk that Thompson knocked Haye down in a sparring session, but this talk has only come from the Audley Harrison camp, so it doesn't have much substance. In reality, Thompson gave an interview to the Mirror Newspaper and never mentioned anything about knocking Haye down. In fact he said the complete opposite. Thompson said he was surprised by how good Haye is, and that David Haye's on a different level to Audley Harrison. He also went on to say that Haye will win this fight easy. The Haye getting knocked down story seems like Audley and his camp trying to play mind games, which could be a sign of desperation, trying to get any edge they can. Even if Haye was knocked down in sparring - So what. Thompsons a top ten ranked fighter. He's much better then Audley Harrison. And after all, that's what sparrings for, to learn from your mistakes and correct where you go wrong. A boxing trainer once told me " Make your mistakes sparring at the gym, get them all out of yourself here, so that you don't make any when your in the actual boxing match". So true.
To me, all the talk coming from Audley is actually Audley trying to convince himself he has a chance of winning this fight. It's like he hides from the facts and burys himself in fantasy. I'm not saying he has zero chance, this is heavyweight boxing, one punch can win you the fight, and Audley does have that decent left hand. But the way he talks about himself is annoying. Just one example, "If Thompson knocked Haye down, imagine what I'm gonna do to him". Thompson has fought much better opposition then Harrison, and has beaten better fighters then Audley Harrison, so for Audley not to see that really does mean he is delusional.
But it must be said, if Audley were to win this fight it would be a fairy tale ending to a boxing career that has looked to be over so many times. I suppose if he did win, I wouldn't mind listening to him some more, if only for 10 minutes more, because at least for once, he done something he said he was going to do.
Audley has two keys to victory in this fight. First one: Apply the Wladimir style: Jab jab, use his range, one two combinations, when Haye trys to get in close to land punches jump out of range or tie up. Two: Land a massive punch and just knock Haye out cold.
Part of me does want Audley to win. Saying that, If Audley did win we would have to listen to him talk for a lot longer then if he loses..Which outcome would you prefer?
Prediction: David Haye to KO Audley in round 4.
