Fighting and Stamina - Can You Defend Yourself?
Fighting is the same as most things, if you want to be good, you have to practice. You have to go over the same moves again and again, making sure you master them all to perfection, but this is not all you have to do. One of the most important things that can win a fight or lose a fight is fitness and stamina.Without this, it doesn't matter how much you practice a particular move or punch combination, If you don't do any fitness training at all like running, sparring, bag work, press ups etc, the chances are, you will get tired very quickly in a real fight. Fitness and stamina can be the difference between losing and winning, or even life and death
You can have one guy that has no power in his punches at all but has good stamina, and another guy who is really powerful but gets tired really quick. If the guy with no power can weather the early storm, after a while the powerful guy will tire. Then the weaker guy will become effective because he has better stamina. This is a very important thing to remember. Obviously, when you get into a street fight, Adrenaline will take over to begin with, but what if the person your fighting is quite a good fighter and you start to feel the strain and become tired? You need to have some stamina. And never forget, in a real fight, every punch you throw or every grapple you get into with your opponent is even more tiring because you tense up and use much more strength and energy because your scared for your own safety.
Fighting and Stamina - Can You Defend Yourself?
Grappling / Wrestling in a real fight is very energy sapping. You can be really fit, but if you don't practice some form or wrestling / grappling, you will be nackered afer 5 mintues. Keeping yourself in good shape is the best option.
Try to keep yourself fit. Make sure you do some form of fitness and stamina training quite regular. Needless to say, we all go through times where we slack off here and there, even i do. But as a whole, try to fit some training into your weekly schedule at least 3 times a week. You don't need to kill yourself everytime until you can't breath, but make sure you get a decent sweat on. Do a really hard training session once a week. Don't do what i am saying here if your overweight or have any medical condition, but if your in decent shape, then training moderately 3 times a week should be fine.
Remember, YOU know your own body and limits better then anyone else. So always listen to your body. Don't over do it, specially to begin with. Get your body used to regular training before doing any hard training sessions. The last thing you want, or i want, is for you to become injured or worse.
