Enzo Maccarinelli Gets Knocked Out
I think I speak for everyone, not just the fans, but for everyone who has followed, and been involved in Big Mac's boxing career. He's one of the nicest guys in boxing, and as much as I hate to say it, he really needs to retire. Let's be honest, after David Haye beat Enzo it has been down hill from there. Frank Warren put him up against C-level fighters just to get his confidence back after each loss, and he demolished them all, and so he should have. But everytime he has stepped up the opposition, looking to get back up there with the best in his division he has been badly knocked out.
In almost all of Enzo's last 10 fights he has relied so much on just raw power alone, gassing himself out trying to land a massive KO punch, and totally leaving his chin out to dry in the process. At World level you just can't do that. If you do, you get knocked out, simple as that. You have to give Enzo credit, he came back after some bad knock out defeats to win the European Title. He has been a World Champion as well, and I think that was when he was at his best, but now his skills have deteriorated, he just doesn't have the sharpness needed. His last fight against Alexander Frenkel was one of the worst performances I have ever seen from Enzo. All he was doing yet again was looking for that huge punch, no defense, no gameplan, no pacing himself, and look at the result, one of the most crushing knockouts I have seen in a while.
Enzo needs to make the decision, Is he OK with competing at a much lower level and just taking out walking punch bags in a few rounds just to boost his confidence. Or should he just accept that he can't compete at world level no longer and call it a day. Only the boxer himself can make that tough, heart breaking, life changing decision.
I wish Enzo all the best in whatever he chooses to do with his life after boxing, he's such a nice guy, I'm sure he'll do well, and I'm pretty sure he has a lot of good family and support around him.
